FLA SCI TRAINING 2011

 

The FLA, in collaboration with a group of brands and consultants, has been developing the Sustainable Compliance Initiative (SCI), a comprehensive assessment system for measuring factories’ management system practices. The SCI is scheduled to enter the pilot phase from August 2011 and be implemented by the FLA for all affiliates from 2012. In preparation for this, the FLA will organize three rounds of SCI training in 2011 to provide the knowledge, methodology and context needed to manage or conduct the SCI assessments properly.

 

SCI MODULES:

Module 1: What IS SCI - WHY SCI - HOW WE WILL DO SCI (Assessors & Recipients*)

Module 2a: SCI WORKFLOW FOR COMPANIES RECEIVING IEA ASSESSMENT (Recipients)

Module 2b: SCI WORKFLOW FOR ASSESSORS (Assessors)

Module 3: ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY (Assessors)

Module 4: SOFT-SKILLS (Assessors & Recipients)

* Recipients refers to all who will be assessed by SCI assessment (both suppliers and companies who have their factories assessed).

 

Round 1

Round I (Late May to Early June 2011) in India: SCI Preparation training - this training focuses on the holistic assessment of a factory using the SCI Workers' Lifecycle approach. The training is mainly targeted at monitors / assessors and compliance staff of affiliates who will take part in hte SCI pilot (as internal monitoring tool), as well as all other affiliates who wish to know more about the new approach. It highlights the importance of 'how the factory is run' and shows 'how to find out how the factory is run', including guidance on assessment methods such as interviewing and observation. This training also introduces the SCI guideline documents.

Round 2

Round  II (Early Aug 2011)  in Hong Kong and Portland, Oregon: Three-day training for affiliates who plan to use SCI internally for the 2011 pilot. The training introduces the SCI workflow using the new FLA platform, reporting in the online tool, regarding SCI results and creating SCI Action Plans.

Round III (Late Oct to Early Nov 2011) in Hong Kong, Portland Oregon, and Istanbul: This round will be divided into two parts. The first three days will introduce the SCI approach, methodology and workflow from a general level, for all affiliates who want to know more about SCI but don't necessarily use it as internal monitoring tool; the second part - last two days will be training on the actual tools and interview techniques for those who will implement SCI as internal monitoring tool in 2012.

From 2012 onwards, the FLA will provide the SCI training on a regular basis, tentatively scheduled in two rounds per year, perhaps each April and September.
