Hiring training for H&M supply factories, May - July, 2009, China

During the period of financial crisis, brands and suppliers are trying to find the way out and construct a stable strategic relationship. In order to stablize the workforce and reduce compliance risks including child labor and unlawful hiring practice arisen from worker recruitment process, H&M decided work with FLA to hold this training to improve suppliers’ Hiring Process.

On May 14, 15, 18 and 21, the FLA facilitated four one-day training sessions on Hiring for H&M suppliers/factories in Shanghai and Beijing.

101 participants from 68 factories attended the training.

H&M will have other two Hiring training sessions in July.

FLA’s training focus on building a non-discrimination and diverse workplace and highlighted Policy and Procedure as part of the management system to avoid compliance risks related to suppliers hiring practice. The training inlucded interactive exercises, group work and case studies.

 

FLA organized evaluations on each session. Summary results of the training indicated below: over 70% participants found they gained clarity about the content of this subject and they could provide guidance to their factories on the issues. Over 86% participants thought the training was well structured.

 

“It is very unique and worthwhile for H&M to organize Hiring training for the CoC staff as well as HR people of its supplier factories in China, since in the hiring process, there are a lot of aspects that are very much related to compliance work and code standards.” FLA certified Chinese trainer commented.

 

Participants also realized that good hiring process was helpful in lowering the turnover rate of the workforce, which could further improve the production efficiency and reduce staffing costs.
